Holiday Rhyme

Holiday Rhyme

Oh, with great cheer,
the holiday season is here,
so let us be thankful we are still here.
take time out and light a candle
For the problems we cannot handle.
Let his praise ring,
Joy to the King,
Pray for all the Tiny Tims,
Sing a  hymn,
Teach your kids the real reason,

and the meaning for the season.

Why Can Anyone Get A Gun

Author: Runas C. Powers, III
November 3, 2015
Why Can Anyone Get a Gun?

Anyone can get a gun
Mental
or not mental
still guns are detrimental
killing people.
Like anything else
they can be used
and abused
by those who have a short fuse.
Yet gun control
is an issue that we must defuse.
So many are confused
and sick
causing many to die so quick.
Regardless of religion, age, or race
guns erase
and don’t discriminate.
A bullet has but one name
Anybody, anywhere , and at anytime
and that’s pain
to see someone slain.
Rather innocent
or guilty
guns leave many lives filthy.
When someone dies
a mother cries
and death we eternalize.
While it is the same for the predator
who takes life
in the form of murder.
Now although every man
and woman
who owns guns will
purposely unjustly kill
yet the ways of the world are so sick
twisted and ill.
While others are labeled crazy
because they take a pill
still if we can’t
get control
of the gun control issue
then many more will die due to
the misuse of a gun.
So if you use a gun
please use it with responsibility and care
in other words guns are making America
more of a living nightmare.

Essay On Love

Essay on Love

Love, what is love? Everyone wants to know. Is it a feeling or emotion that we all yearn for? We may never know but we do know that we all want love. From God’s grace, to the human desire, and what the world needs is love.
In First Corinthians (13. 4-7) the apostle Paul said, “Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.” So you can see that the Bible gives a clear understanding of what love is and what it is supposed to be.
This shows that God’s love is grace, and it is through knowing that God is love and his grace is a powerful thing. God’s grace transcends into love, although we may not all know what love is. From the Bible standpoint we have a clear definition of what love does or is supposed to do. Love can be forgiving and nurturing, showing support for someone or something. By doing this we are showing a sign of love that can be seen. Since love is an abstract thing, it is something that we can’t see.      It is through the power of God as he uses people to show love in a form that is more concrete. As Christians, we believe that we are saved by grace through faith and that is our key into the kingdom of God. So it is not by good deeds alone but by the grace of God through faith in him in which we find love.
It has been said that everybody wants and needs love. It’s a common universal theme that we all acquire, wanting to love and needing to be loved. From the time we are born to the time we die we want love. Whether as a parent or a child, we seek to nurture and to be nurtured. For example, when a child is born it comes into the world depending on the love and care of its parents. This is a natural way of life for us as human beings while we go through the cycle we call life. When we get older we strive to meet a special someone. Some call it a soul-mate while others call it a husband or a wife. It is through this process of life that we as people continue on our quest to seek and search for love.
Instead of a relationship of intimacy, we may seek friendship. When it comes to the same sex we still seek companionship. As we grow and go through life and our daily ventures of living, we want to be involved with others. While we go through our everyday activities, we look forward to meeting and being with people. Still we want to be loved and love others as a part of our daily lives as human beings, as we all have the human desire for love.
We all have heard the song “What the world needs now is love.”  That is a true statement. The world is a crazy place where we need to show love as a moral issue. For the most part we are all from different races, colors, and creeds. Still we need to show love. Life is short and some of us never have the chance to say “I love you” to someone. Rather it is because of life’s hectic rat race, trying to survive the storms we face in life, and being so consumed with ourselves, many times we forget to show love or concern for others.
Now we as people are all created equal because of God. No matter whether we are Christian, Hebrew, or Muslim, we are all God’s children. In fact, according to the Bible, (Gen 17. 5-8) it reads, “What’s more God told him, I am changing your name it is no longer Abram (Exalted Father’) but Abraham (Father of Nations’)- for that is what you will be. I have declared it. I will give you millions of descendants who will form many nations! Kings shall be among your descendants! And I will continue this agreement between us generation after generation, forever, for it shall be between me and your children as well. It is a contract that I shall be your God and the God of your posterity. And I will give all this land of Canaan to you and them, forever. And I will be your God.” Now all this comes about after Abraham had a child by Hagar who gave birth to Ishmael. So this shows that we as people, are all one. Being that we are all God’s children because of this we have ties that can bind us together with the greatest of factors being love. By this we should show grace, tolerance and most of all acceptance.
Now knowing that the word love can mean many different things, regardless of whether it is abstract or concrete, it is love that is a common theme that we are all in need of. Whether it is the grace of God, the human desire, or that the world needs love, love is the most essential key to life. It is the most common emotion known to human kind. So it is that love itself is but a mystery due to the fact we can’t see it touch it or feel it in a concrete form, but we know it is there. Love is something that we all need. it is the only thing that will stand the test of time because it is of God and God is love.

Life Is Eternal

Life is Eternal

Oh the hardships we face,
getting through them only by God’s grace.
Tears so sweet from heaven on my face
with the joys and sorrows,
that somebody did not live to see tomorrow.
When we were all young
silliness was how we hung.
Now a few years have passed on
And death has become our song.
Being ever so hard it is to go on
although life’s current is so strong.
By the Lord’s drum we march on,
a triumphant tune we hum,
knowing that life does not end in the tomb
or start in the womb.
it is eternal,
 yes, so eternal.

You Walked With Me

You Walked With Me
Daddy you have walked with me
From birth to a baby you have walked with me
From an adolescent to young adult you have walked with me
From the ups and downs
To smiles and frowns
You have walked with me
By my side
You have been my life’s guide
From trouble to triumph to victory
To misery
Daddy you have walked with me
 from pains
To gains
To one day at a time
To now having peace of mind
You walked with me
From graduation
To my life’s elevation
You have gave me so much inspiration
So I say to you
I love you
For showing me the way
Thanks dad happy father’s day

The Saga Of Struggle

The Saga of Struggle

Oh, how great is the pain
because life is about change
as nothing stays the same.

The saga’s enduring cycles of drama
at this state of mind is a “mutha”
from hangovers
to being sober.

The anguish is never over
and the absolute defeat of reality
makes me a casualty
of the ongoing process that we call life.
The Saga Of Struggle.

Junkie Bird

Junkie Bird

Imagine a bird that is not free,
It is trapped in its own misery,
And blames others and wants sympathy,
This tormented bird’s soul,
Is not all whole,
The bird wonders many sick thoughts,
With mostly self-driven plots,
His heart is full of broken dreams,
And he wants to accomplish many things,
He is terrified by self-centered fear,
And what he hears is perceived wrongly,
Even though his will is so strong,
To survive and stay alive,
Only to fly high,
Or just get by,
He is caught in a vicious cycle
And falls in a downward spiral
But only if he decides to pray,
Then he may,
Stay clean just for one day
At a time,
And free his soul and mind.

A Teacher's Impact On Me Dedicated in loving memory To My Favorite Professor Dr.Maryanow

A Teacher’s Impact on Me

You taught me
to dream big
and aim high
while holding
my head to the sky.
I know life is crazy
because I never
had a chance to say goodbye.
Yet forever in my heart and soul
your impact on me
I will forever hold.
You taught me
more than just how to write
you instructed me
how to live my life.
You were such a kind man
willing to give
a helping hand
always all business
but you managed
to share a few laughs
helping and inspiring
many to stay on the right path.
Oh yes sir ! Dr. Maryanow
you will be missed
but just how short
life is.
As these poetic tears I wipe
from my face
knowing a great man like you,
you are in a better place
by God’s grace.
So I say
thanks for the impact
that you made on me
for teaching me
to be
the best I could ever be.
For the tears of life will always constantly flow
but that’s life

and we all one day will have to go.

Hip Hop Blues

Hip Hop Blues

I am paying my dues,
To write these hip hop blues.
I study Langston Hughes,
But walk in my own shoes.
I represent Alabama,
Where they are known for the yellow hammer.
I spit this southern grammar.
In this state they cut back education,
And preach racial segregation.
I strive to live,
And help, and give
In a positive way.
I pray for Alabama today,
That one day we can have peace
In the streets,
Because black on black crime
Has me losing my mind.

Tears For You a Poem for A Fallen Friend

Tears For You

Tears for you
In retrospect
thoughts
I collect.
My heart’s recollection
of a man,
well deserving
                                                                a great dedication.
Through my tears I pay my respects,
they transcend
with the pen.
Oh! Carl,
 you were
more than a friend.
You were a role model
For me.
An inspiration for my own recovery,
You taught me to don’t use no matter what
and to  keep on coming back.
Your life is a never ending legacy.
Thank you Mr. Carl C.
May you rest heavenly.
 I will always remember you
In my mind, soul, and heart.
Thanks for being a part
of my Journey,
from now on eternally.

For Valentines Day My Love

My Love

My coffee and cream,
my love is a beautiful being,
my completed dream,
my Godly gift,
my soul you uplift.
My sugar so brown,
my queen of the town,
my sweet rose
who enchants my nose.
My aesthetic love,
my high love,
my cannot say goodbye love,
my love song and dance,
my life’s-long romance.
Forever kissing you
under sunrises and sunsets,
my love’s life needs are met,
because your love is as good as it gets.

For Black History Month

A Rhyme Manifesto

I create art on lyrical easels,
My poetry is as powerful as a diesel,
Moving through the night,
I am a native son like Richard Wright,
But I am hip hop like Eric Wright,
I am smooth with jazz
With a clash,
I speak about the past,
Fighting for our rights,
So that kids can see the future bright,
Black as space,
Proud of my race,
Living legal,
A man, but a champion of the people
Never doing better than
Just a common man,
I capture my soul
At a whole,
And put it in a poem,
When it is the time to display I show ‘em,
I huddle in the masses,
While the battle between good and evil clashes,
Out of courage and determination,
The sprinter dashes,
To win life’s race,
That only comes when you pace.

The Dream I Sing

The Dream I Sing

I sing my dream
to absolute extremes,
with the pen
I illustrate and let you in.
To a soul
that lives on
but weary,
the heart is painfully teary.
Bound by the color you see,
to grasp proper history
only helps me
to be free.
Although color I try not to see,
life is indeed of the educational variety.
Through its rarities
I find my reflection in society
invisible
withering away without a principle.
Dying in vain,
while trying to maintain,
but yet I sing my dreams
with my theme
of struggle
and everything it brings.
I know there will be anguish
of my heart’s written language
to suffer and suffice.
Oh, this world is far from paradise
so I know

I have a long way to go.
